When I first read about this challenge I was really excxited since my attempt at creating a Pop-up card last week left me dying to make another one!! So I have!!
This one is more complex than my first one, I used a template I found at this amazing website by Robert Sabuda and decided to make my card based on this.
Here is what the inside looks like opened out ...
and here is the front ...
My card has lots of tiny details that neither of these photos really do any justice to so I decided to take a few close-ups as well ...
This close-up was of the flower on the front cover. Its a fairly plain one with a trim underneath it but I really wanted to use it to tie in the muslin that I used under the panel on the front.
I hung a strip of mesh tape from the boat just as a fishing boat would then added a strand of leafy ribbon to simulate seaweed. I also added rhinestone flourishes on either side of the boat to rreflect the swirling waves since the paper was, while 'wave' patterned, was very 2 dimensional.
The sails of each boat were created in light card first then coated in a layer of muslin to keep with the nautical feel of real sails. I scruffed the edges up a bit as well to give the boat an aged feel.
I managed to find a patterned paper that featured the world map on it and I used this as elements on my card. While the boat is fully hinged to the cards centre, I also added two other features (the barrle and Edwin) that I used a pop-up stand to enable them to pop our from the sides of the boat.
To prove that each of my folds work and my card folds flat, I've taken a photo of it half closed to show how exactly it folds down to fit into its envelope.
